(PRWEB UK) 22 February 2012

Free-Teaching-Resources.co.uk was the brainchild of Yorkshire entrepreneur Rebecca Jordan. Jordan had the idea for the site after being commissioned by a government agency to create useful lesson plans for schools. She realised that there were lots of fantastic free resources out there, but in many cases teachers didn’t know how or where to find them. As well as being hugely popular with teachers, the website has attracted attention from top charities, museums and blue chip companies who have contributed.

The website lists and reviews free teaching resources and covers all UK subject areas and key stages. The types of resources range from lesson plans, posters and worksheets, to online videos and interactive games. The site boasts an impressive list of contributors including the AA Driving School, NHS Careers, SkillsActive, PETA, NatWest, Battersea Dogs Home, the Equality and Human Rights Commission, The Children’s Society and many many more.

Four years on the website has been visited by millions of teachers. The rebuild has allowed organisations to post video directly onto the preview page so teachers can quickly and easily see what there is on offer. It also allows teachers to share tips with their colleagues on how they used the materials in the classroom.

“We are so delighted that the site had been such a huge success with both teachers and companies who want to promote their resources” said Jordan . “We knew we were on to something special when Google listed their teaching resources on our site”.

Free-Teaching-Resources.co.uk has new resources and news items added weekly so teachers are guaranteed a fresh bank of educational material to choose from. There is also a teachers’ newsletter service for schools who want to be the first to know about any new resources.

Notes For Editors:

Rebecca Jordan is co-founder and director of PDC Education Ltd. She has won national Entrepreneur of the Year awards, written business columns for local and national press, presented a television series on women in business, is a published author of business books, and has sat on the board of the Leeds Metropolitan University Centre of Excellence in Teaching and Learning.

Nashville, TN (PRWEB) April 29, 2010

The International Songwriting Competition (ISC) is pleased to announce its 2009 winners. It is with great pleasure that ISC bestows its highest honor, the ISC Grand Prize, to King Charles of London, England for his song “Love Lust,” a brilliantly unique song that stretches the boundaries of contemporary rock with a sonic roller coaster ride of head-rushing, multi-layered instrumentation and vocals. This is the first time the US-based ISC has ever awarded its Grand Prize to a UK songwriter. The Grand Prize winner takes home $ 25,000 in cash (US) and over $ 20,000 in prizes, the largest Grand Prize of any songwriting competition.

Established in 2002, ISC honors amateur and professional songwriters around the world and awards more than $ 150,000 in cash and prizes in all. With judges ranging from Tom Waits, Steve Winwood, Jeff Beck, Robbie Williams, McCoy Tyner, Loretta Lynn, Jerry Lee Lewis, Robert Smith (The Cure) and many more (as well as seven record label Presidents), winning the ISC Grand Prize is an accomplishment that recognizes excellence in the craft of songwriting.

In its eighth year, ISC received almost 15,000 songs from amateur and professional songwriters from almost 100 countries worldwide, confirming ISC’s status as the leading global songwriting event. The New York Times called ISC, “the songwriting competition to take note of.”

For a complete list of 2009 ISC winners and to hear the winning songs, go to http://www.songwritingcompetition.com/winners.htm

The song “Love Lust” was a unanimous selection by the ISC judges. The song, entered into the Rock category, was praised by the ISC judges for its originality, ambitious and innovative arrangement, hooky melody, and poetic lyrics.

Candace Avery, the founder and director of ISC, states, “The song ‘Love Lust’ is one of the most inventive songs I’ve ever heard. It is rare that an artist comes along who is so creative, interesting, and most importantly, authentic. There is such a depth to his artistry that it seems as if the creativity just pours out of him. I am confident he has a hugely successful career ahead of him.”

King Charles only began making music seriously in 2005. Earlier as a boy, he learned the cello, sang in the school choir, and took up guitar, listening to Dylan who he says “made the world bigger for me.” After a year at University, he returned to London, without a degree, but with a new moniker, King Charles. He formed a band, Adventure Playground, and soon they were touring with artists such as Laura Marling, Noah and the Whale, and Mumford and Sons. The song, “Love Lust” is his latest single and demonstrates his keenly original artistry.

To download photos of King Charles, go to http://www.songwritingcompetition.com/GrandPrize.htm

In addition to the Grand Prize winner, many other deserving songwriters also share in the prestige and kudos of winning their respective categories in ISC 2009. These winners hail from all over the world (57% of this year’s winners come from outside the USA), representing diverse cultures and ranging from talented amateurs to seasoned songwriting veterans. The 21 categories include all genres of contemporary music, from Rock to Pop to Jazz to R&B/Hip-Hop and more. See below for a complete list of ISC 2009 winners.

Elizabethtown, KY (PRWEB) February 15, 2012

EatMoveBeFit.com, a new e-magazine devoted to topics in health and fitness, has officially started offering fat loss cheat sheets in an effort to combat rising obesity. The fat loss cheat sheets are free and available directly on the website.

According to a new study in The Journal of Clinical Endocrinology and Metabolism, obesity is on its way to becoming one of the leading causes of health problems today. The study acknowledges the role of nutritionally questionable high calorie foods as a cause.

“Obesity has emerged as one of the leading medical challenges of the 21st century,” the study’s authors claimed. “The growing obesity epidemic is linked to a substantial increase in daily [caloric] intake.”

The study notes that feedback loops within the bodies of obese people make it particularly hard to fight obesity. The study notes, however, that while obesity is partly genetic, the wide availability of tasty, high-calorie foods may be the main culprit.

The authors of the online publication EatMoveBeFit.com have stepped into the fight against obesity. Each week the website offers readers three new issues devoted to a range of health and wellness topics.

In recent issues, they have tackled nutrition, writing about certain foods that lead to fat accumulation. EatMoveBeFit.com has recently covered the specific benefits of strength training for fat loss, as well as general tips for reshaping your body.

Now, in the words of EatMoveBeFit.com’s editor Scott Colby, the website has “taken it to the next level.” As of now, the website is offering free fat loss cheat sheets.

This free tool is designed to fight the obesity epidemic and teach people that it is a disease that can be fought.

“With our articles, we try to spread the best practices in health and fitness,” Colby noted. “Our goal with these cheat sheets is to make a fast and easy guide for body-conscious people to follow anytime.”

The fat loss cheat sheets are now available directly on the website: http://EatMoveBeFit.com.

EatMoveBeFit.com is a member of the Fitness Consulting Group family of companies. It is the world’s leading health and fitness website and newsletter for giving you a better body today.

Mbale, Uganda (PRWEB) February 09, 2012

LivingStone International University opened its doors to the students and families of Uganda on Jan. 16, 2012. More than 30 students began their bachelor’s degree programs in Communications and Media Technology, Business Administration and Christian Ministry. “This is the culmination of a 10-year vision including more than six years of focused planning and work,” said Phillip Shero, Interim Vice Chancellor.

Every student has been equipped with a Kindle, along with access to 30 brand new computers and a library with more than 15,000 electronically-catalogued books. “LIU aims to set a new standard for Christian higher education in Africa,” said Shero.

The roots of LIU began with a very effective mission team, some of whom have been in Africa for 30 years. During this time, the team has been involved in planting more than 500 churches in Uganda, Kenya and South Sudan. A successful Bible training work established by the group of missionaries inspired the vision of a Christian university that directs ethical students towards the forefront of change and influence.

According to Ugandan government statistics, up to 35,000 high school graduates per year can’t attend a university, because space isn’t available.

“Fundamentally, we want to make an eternal difference in the life of each student while equipping them to be leaders in all areas of African society,” said Shawn Tyler, University Chancellor. “Through spiritual mentoring and real-world internships, we plan to guide the personal development of each student.”

LIU begins on a campus in the town of Mbale, with plans to build a permanent campus on 56 acres of land already owned by the university. The master-planned permanent campus was designed by Engineering Ministries International and includes pristine, modern buildings to accommodate 4,000 full-time students.

Hoboken, New Jersey (PRWEB) August 26, 2008

EducationDynamics today released the 2007 eLearning Index, a tool designed to offer colleges and universities critical insight into trends in demand for online education. By identifying the supply and demand characteristics in online education, EducationDynamics’ exclusive research report allows schools to tailor program offerings to boost high-quality leads.

EducationDynamics aggregated the data from one of its premier websites, eLearners.com®, which has been connecting learners to online education for nearly a decade. While eLearners.com offers an information-rich platform through which students can find appropriate online degree program offerings, the website also offers higher education institutions proprietary data to enhance their prospecting activities. By tracking activity on the website, EducationDynamics is able to measure the supply and demand of online education to determine which programs are hot, which are not and to identify the greatest opportunities in launching new online programs.

“With nearly one million unique visitors a month and more than seven years of mining data from prospective students visiting the site, eLearners.com is in the unique position to observe trends, demands and behavior of prospective online students,” explains Steve Isaac, CEO of EducationDynamics. “As a result, we are able to gather broad demographic and psychographic data proven to help schools meet demand in areas of high student interest in online programs and increase the effectiveness of their prospecting initiatives.”

The eLearning Index captures the current landscape of demand for online higher education, with specific emphasis in the following areas:

 Demographic qualities of those seeking to pursue online education;
Key motivators for students pursuing an online degree;
The most highly sought after degree programs;
A comparison of relative performance by academic degree level; and
States with higher and lower demand for online education.
For schools interested in exploring additional information gleaned by the 2007 eLearning Index, the report is now available on a paid subscription basis by contacting Howard Mandel at hmandel@educationdynamics.com or 201.377.3020. As part of the eLearning Index subscription package, institutional planners will receive two hours of an EducationDynamics analyst’s time for a detailed and custom analysis of findings as they pertain to their specific institutional goals.

Irvine, California (PRWEB) February 02, 2012

In its continuing effort to give back to military service members who serve our nation with such distinction, California Southern University has announced the availability of discounted group rates for the spouses and children of military personnel. Effective immediately, spouses and children of both active-duty military service members and veterans are eligible for a 10-percent tuition discount for CalSouthern’s online degree programs in business, psychology, and law.

“CalSouthern is honored to provide active-duty military and veterans with all the personalized support they need to achieve their educational goals, from helping them learn how to best utilize their military education benefits to working with them to develop a degree program that meets their needs, or providing them with the tools they need to succeed in their coursework,” says University President Dr. Caroll Ryan. “However, we recognize that it’s not just the service members who make sacrifices for our country. Their loved ones do, as well. So we wanted to extend our efforts on behalf of the military to benefit their families, too. We hope that many will take advantage of this program to pursue their dreams.”

CalSouthern officially launched its military program in February 2011 and—just six months later—was awarded the designation of “Military-Friendly School” for 2012 for prioritizing the recruitment of students with military experience and offering special programs and services to those who have served. The 2012 list of Military-Friendly Schools was compiled through extensive research and a data-driven survey of more than 8,000 schools nationwide.

Established in 1978, California Southern University is a premier online university offering accredited degree programs at the associate, bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral levels in psychology, business, and law to an international student body, utilizing a proprietary online learning system. CalSouthern is accredited by the Accrediting Commission of the Distance Education and Training Council. The Accrediting Commission is listed by the U.S. Department of Education as a nationally recognized accrediting agency and is a recognized member of the Council for Higher Education Accreditation.

Black Mountain, NC (PRWEB) July 26, 2011

Stone Mountain School is among the first therapeutic boarding schools in the country to provide bilingual Spanish-English programming. With the addition on July 15 of bilingual therapist Anna Seno, MSW, Stone Mountain School now offers a full range of program, academic and clinical support to international and ESL students, and provides the parents of bilingual students with insight and guidance in their native Spanish.

Whether a parent is a first generation citizen or their son is an international student seeking an opportunity to increase his own mastery of English while preparing for education in a more traditional boarding school, the supportive environment at Stone Mountain School can be critical for forward progress.

“Stone Mountain School’s approach to personal development and academic success is centered on the universal language of healthy growth and development,” said the school’s Executive Director Jake Weld, M.Ed. “The ability to support a Spanish-speaking student or parent with cultural sensitivity, linguistic flexibility and programmatic responsiveness is a key component of a successful placement.”

As a fully SEVIS-accredited school, Stone Mountain School can work with students from overseas. The school’s accreditation by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS) ensures that academic credits are transferable to other school settings.

In addition to the benefit of the immersive language environment for ESL students, there are four Orton-Gillingham trained language specialists on staff, including one who is bilingual. Additionally, Stone Mountain School’s CARF accreditation serves as an indicator of the level of clinical and residential programming, staff training, and a commitment to quality at the school.

About Stone Mountain School

Stone Mountain School is a SACS-accredited, year-round therapeutic boarding school for boys ages 11-17 with emotional, behavioral and learning issues such as ADD, ADHD and nonverbal learning disorder (NLD). Set in beautiful western North Carolina, the school blends outdoor adventure trips, a nationally standardized academic curriculum, and weekly individual and group therapy to help students achieve academic and personal success. Since 1990, Stone Mountain School has helped boys build their confidence, strengthen their relationships and take charge of their futures.

Stone Mountain School is a program of Aspen Education Group, the nation’s leading provider of therapeutic education programs for struggling or underachieving young people. Aspen’s services range from short-term intervention programs to residential treatment, and include a variety of therapeutic settings such as boarding schools, outdoor behavioral health programs and special needs summer camps, allowing professionals and families the opportunity to choose the best setting to meet a student’s unique academic and emotional needs.

Aspen Education Group is a member of CRC Health Group, the most comprehensive network of specialized behavioral care services in the nation. For over two decades, CRC Health has been achieving successful outcomes for individuals and families.

Phoenix, AZ (PRWEB) February 03, 2012

City of Phoenix Mayor Greg Stanton has appointed Phoenix College faculty member Trino Sandoval to serve as his Senior Policy Advisor on Education.

In the advisory role, Sandoval will convene and facilitate stakeholders around the Mayor’s education agenda, which includes strengthening pre-school programs, expanding afterschool programs, improving secondary and post-secondary alignment and collaboration, and seeking a greater university presence in Phoenix. He began his part-time role today. Dr. Sandoval will continue to teach a class at Phoenix College.

“Support for our schools and the future of our city go hand in hand, which is why I have made education a key priority in my administration,” said Mayor Stanton. “With his vast experience and community connections, Dr. Sandoval is the perfect person to lead our education initiative.”

Not only will Dr. Sandoval advise the Mayor and City of Phoenix management on strategies to implement the agenda, he will coordinate with local and national education leaders and other stakeholders on all issues related to education.

“I’m honored to be chosen for this position and I’m looking forward to working on these challenging issues,” said Dr. Sandoval. “Creating successful educational outcomes for our youth is the best investment the city can make because it will pay off tenfold in the future.”

Since 1996, Dr. Sandoval has taught Spanish and Latin American literature classes in the college’s Department of Liberal Arts. During his tenure at PC, he has held many roles and assignments, including serving as Associate Dean of Continuing Education and Community Service, Chair of the Department of Foreign Languages, Interim Director of the Raul H. Castro Institute and Director of Title V, Department of Education Grant to Hispanic Serving Institutions.

Dr. Sandoval received his Ph.D. in Spanish from Arizona State University in 2003 and also has a Master’s of Arts in Spanish from ASU. He received his bachelor of arts in Spanish and Latin American Studies from California State University, Chico.

“The Mayor made an excellent choice in naming Dr. Sandoval to this position,” said Dr. Anna Solley, president of Phoenix College. “He has been an invaluable member of our college and he’ll bring great insight on what can be done to improve the education levels of our city’s young people.”

In November 2011, the City of Phoenix, Phoenix College, and Phoenix Union High School District received a $ 600,000 grant from the Lumina Foundation for “Degree Phoenix,” a program aimed at Latino youth that supports and enhances pathways from high school to college and college to workforce. In his policy advisor role, Dr. Sandoval will serve as a coaching fellow for the Lumina Grant, a liaison to education funders such as the Lumina Foundation and Gates Foundation, and liaison for the Mayor’s Futures Forum on Education with other Arizona mayors.
